The Mending Room

This piece was created for a themed exhibit, Stories, at the Uforge Gallery in Jamaica Plain. Story comes naturally to me in my work because I believe that the creatures I create have their own voice, their own will in the collages. I wanted to coax down the fierce looking bird in the upper left corner, but it was not easily swayed with scraps of paper mice. We see only what is visible on this 18x24 inch canvas, but consider this a window. The Mending Room is actually cavernous. An old barn that had once been a woodworkers shop, it has been taken over by a young girl who takes in injured birds and heals them. Sometimes she must use scraps of metal or wood, whatever she can find, to gently and magically bring each bird back to health.
