Repeat After Me

Ralph Waldo Emerson wrote, “Nature is an endless combination and repetition of a very few laws. She hums the old well-known air through innumerable variations.” After years of collage work, I cannot help but see the repetitions. Flipping through magazines, flora nd fauna spill out, eager to be liberated from the dark closed pages, and I am happy to oblige. A fish becomes a butterfly. A bird is reborn as a  flower. The ripples on water are scales. These “innumerable variations” speak to me. From the corner of my eye I see a giant caterpillar curled around a model’s face. Let me liberate it from the page before it gets crushed. In this collage, Repeat After Me, you might find these liberated creatures and see how they have been transformed.
